Touchless washes: better, but not free

Nothing physically touches the paint, which removes the abrasion problem. The trade-off is chemistry: to clean without contact, these systems use high-pH detergents and strong acids in the pre-soak. Repeated exposure degrades a coating's hydrophobic performance and can dull trim.

Occasional use — a road trip, a cold week, an unexpected mess — is a reasonable compromise. Weekly use is not.
