Gelcoat oxidation looks catastrophic and is usually reversible. The process is technically closer to paint correction than to washing — and shortcuts show up within weeks.
What Oxidation Actually Is
UV breaks down the resin at the surface, leaving a chalky, dull layer. Compounding removes that layer; polishing refines it; sealing protects the exposed fresh gelcoat.
Compounding Correctly
Aggressive cut is required, but too much removes usable gelcoat. Measurement and controlled passes matter here as much as on automotive paint.
Polishing to Clarity
The refining stage is what returns the deep gloss. Skipping it leaves a hazy result.
Sealing and Coating
